Welcome to Muntinlupa City for a quick reality check. In a world of high-tech gadgets and ‘smart’ tactics, I’m constantly reminded that my best plans are no match for Mayet’s ‘Ancestral Intelligence.’ Today’s mission: Trying out a new strategy without getting roasted by the boss of the house.

Lolo Melvyn: “Mayet, I’ve optimized my morning routine. If I drink my coffee while checking emails and putting on my shoes, I save 4 minutes and 12 seconds every day!”

Lola Mayet: “Melvyn, you saved 4 minutes to do what? You just spent them staring at the wall because you’re so tired from rushing. Why not just enjoy the coffee?”

The Savage Reality: If you optimize your life to the point where you stop enjoying it, you’ve optimized it right into the trash.

Tactical After-Action Review (AAR)

In the professional world, we call this “Optimizing Workflow.” As a Business Consultant, I spend my days teaching people how to shave seconds off a process to increase margins. But as an Accountability Partner for my own life, I’ve realized that “Efficiency” is often a clever disguise for “Impatience.”

We are a generation obsessed with doing things faster. We want “Smart” everything, “Fast” everything, and “Instant” everything. But notice what we lose in the process: the taste of the coffee, the warmth of the morning sun, and the actual conversation with the person sitting across from us.

To the Boomers: We’ve worked hard our whole lives. Don’t let the habit of “working hard” prevent you from the art of “living well.”

To the Millennials and Gen Z: You have the world at your fingertips. But speed is not a virtue if you’re rushing toward a destination that doesn’t make you happy. Efficiency is a tool to give you more time to be present, not less time to enjoy life.

My challenge to you today: Identify one task you usually “optimize” and force yourself to do it slowly. Savor it. Being “productive” is overrated; being “present” is a superpower.
