Welcome to Muntinlupa City for a quick reality check. In a world of high-tech gadgets and ‘smart’ tactics, I’m constantly reminded that my best plans are no match for Mayet’s ‘Ancestral Intelligence.’ Today’s mission: Trying out a new strategy without getting roasted by the boss of the house.
Lolo Melvyn: “Mayet, I have searched the entire house. The keys are officially lost. I’ve checked the desk, the drawer, and the counter. They have vanished into thin air!”
Lola Mayet: “Melvyn, look at the table. They are right there.”
Lolo Melvyn: “I looked at the table! They weren’t there a second ago! They must have moved.”
Lola Mayet: “They didn’t move. You just have ‘Husband Vision’—it’s like a superpower where you can’t see anything unless it’s actually sitting in your hand.”
The Savage Reality: Marriage is 10% love, 10% patience, and 80% finding things that were “right there” the whole time.
Tactical After-Action Review (AAR)
We all have those moments where we swear something has disappeared, only for our partner to find it in the exact spot we stared at for ten minutes. As a Management Consultant, I pride myself on being observant. I track data, I analyze trends, and I map out complex organizational structures. Yet, I can’t find my own car keys.
There is a lesson here about “Stress-Blindness.” When we are stressed or rushing, our brains literally tune out the world around us. We aren’t failing to see the keys; we are failing to be present in our own environment.
- To the Boomers: We’ve spent years managing big responsibilities. It’s okay to admit we need a second pair of eyes—or a nudge from our better half—to see what’s right in front of us.
- To the Millennials & Gen Z: Life moves fast, and your digital world is filled with endless “keys” (passwords, notifications, tasks). Don’t forget to pause, breathe, and look at the physical world around you.
My challenge to you today: Before you get frustrated that you can’t find a solution (or your keys), take three deep breaths. Sometimes the answer isn’t hidden; you’re just looking too hard.
Deepen Your Strategy: For more on staying grounded while juggling the pressures of life, my book, “The SELF-RESCUE PLAYBOOK,” explores how we can find clarity amidst the chaos. Find it at https://melvynccvalenzuela.com
